For decades, the Democrats’ mantra in a national election was “Republicans are in the pockets of special interests.” Now, more and more people are coming to believe that Democrats are aligned with “special interests.” The question is – as they rub shoulders with Big Tech billionaires, Hollywood celebrities, music executives, internet “influencers” and woke corporate CEOs – do they take a moment to stand in the aware of the news of the day?

Much of the news financially and mentally crushes working-class Americans and those living below the poverty line. Or, to put those precincts in a category the Democratic elites might understand: tens of millions of voters.

As the elites pulling the levers of the Democratic Party continue to appease their far-left wing with the January 6 hearings; a Green New Deal costing at least $6 trillion (yes, billions of dollars); forgiving university loans for the most part rich white kids; and wealth redistribution, most Americans are literally crying out for help for factors that negatively impact their lives and security.

Again, current events may not be topics of discussion at the five-star private jet-accessible retreats these elites attend, so here’s a recap: gas price may cause some Americans to choose between food and fuel; to skyrocket inflation forces some to do without; violent crime rate in the big cities threaten to spread to the suburbs; unchecked illegal immigration adds unsustainable stress to our health care system, constituent services, and federal, state, county, and city budgets, and literally costs lives. We know this because the “real news” that the elites may have missed or the elites have turned away from tells us that, just this week, at least 51 immigrants were found dead in an abandoned tractor-trailer in Texas. Shouldn’t such a tragic development be discussed at the next cocktail party?

Defunding the police and not prosecuting criminals, or releasing them to the streets and removing cash bail, may be the dream of left-leaning district attorneys but, as a recent recall election in California has shown us, this is the stuff of nightmares for Americans who have to deal with the consequences of such policies.

The death spiral that many believe the United States finds itself in has gone well beyond which party will control Congress after the 2022 midterms and who will win the White House in 2024. If the elites paid attention to what is happening in America away from their gated communities, they might find that most voters now care about the quality of life issues. Can anyone in the Democratic Party read the room… anyone?

There are many high-profile, knowledgeable, and empathetic Democratic advisers who believe their party — and the nation as a whole — needs to embrace more pragmatic, common-sense solutions to America’s problems. But, as I’ve been told, a number of them just don’t want to face the anger progressives would direct at them if they dared to speak up.

So as they join a long list of issue-shirking Democrats, more and more voters — including traditional democrats – run to trouble. They do so because their quality of life is disrupted by resolutely illiberal policies.

For those Democrats who seemingly cater only to the far left, I have one final question: When did the welfare of 90% of the American people no longer matter to your party?
